Caddick Construction to create new student accommodation in York

Caddick Construction has been awarded a contract to create 220 student flats on Lawrence Street in York.

Caddick Construction has been awarded the contract by Legacy Student Living to create 220 self-contained student flats, which will be spread over three blocks. The student flats will comprise brickwork elevations with loadbearing block work.

The project, which is set to gain a Very Good BREEAM rating, will incorporate solar panels which will be installed onto the energy centre roof, and 100 per cent rain water harvesting will be utilised in the accommodation and all rooms will be heated via external air source heat pumps.

Construction began earlier this month, with completion expected by July 2015.

The transaction has been co-ordinated by Caddick Developments Ltd who arranged the sale of the site from a private investor to Legacy and the subsequent appointment of Caddick Construction Ltd as main contractor.

Simon Laycock, Project Manager at Caddick Construction, comments: “Securing this new contract is a great addition to our portfolio of clients. The new accommodation will benefit from energy saving and external air source heat pumps, amongst other quality features. What’s more we are using a new method of installing pod bathrooms into each apartment, which means they have been constructed off site, but will be lifted into position complete with shower, toilet and sink.

“The redevelopment of this site will provide a significant contribution to the local shops and facilities and provide economic vitality to the surrounding areas.”
