Family-owned Caddick Construction has donated a bundle of 30 sleeping bags to the Lancaster-based community charity The Olive Branch that helps the homeless and local people in need.
As winter pushes in and the weather turns colder, the sleeping bags will be distributed as quickly as possible to the city’s homeless as well as those luckier to have been giving their own emergency accommodation, but not always essentials such as bed and bedding.
Caddick Construction, which has its North West HQ in Warrington, has a number of schemes underway across the region and is keen to support community initiatives that affect local lives.
The idea to donate sleeping bags came about when the Caddick team started working on site for the new Porsche Showroom in Carnforth and heard about The Olive Branch. Caddick Construction is also organising a food bank collection amongst its staff to help keep the shelves stocked at the Christian charity.
The Olive Branch started out serving meals for the homeless 14 years ago. It has since grown and now its 30 volunteers run a food bank that supplies food parcels across the local community, as well as supporting homeless and vulnerable people through its two local centres. Pre-lockdown its drop-in centre and advice service was also very popular offering support to those who needed it. The support services are still available but on a remote basis.
Said The Olive Branch manager, Leslie Manns: “Something as simple as a new, clean sleeping bag can make all the difference to someone living on the streets. It is an item we are in constant need of as they easily get wet, damaged or stolen regularly. This delivery will offer a huge amount of comfort to people who don’t have very much to call their own.”
Glenn Cameron Project Manager, from Caddick Construction added: “We have sites up and running across the North West and always try to become involved with the local communities wherever possible. We were delighted to help The Olive Branch with this slightly unusual donation, but we’re really pleased the sleeping bags are going to be put to good use straight away.”
