Caddick Construction has won a multi-million pound contract to build West Yorkshire’s first ‘Lidl of the Future’ store.
Caddick Construction has been awarded the contract directly by Lidl UK. The construction team began working on the 26,586 sq ft project on Monday 18 April and the team is scheduled to be on site for 31 weeks, with the completion due in November 2016.
The construction programme includes the demolition of the existing Lidl store and construction of the new store including internal fit out. Caddick Construction will also complete external works including the car park.
The new ‘Lidl of the Future’ will have a fully glazed frontage, a flush external façade and exposed internal roof. The interior of the store will be designed and finished to a very high quality specification, in order to provide the best possible shopping experience for its customer. The store will also feature Lidl’s new branding.
Chris de Whytell, Contracts Manager at Caddick Construction, comments: “We’re delighted to have picked up this contract. Lidl is a fantastic brand and builds on our established retail construction experience, adding to the fact the store is a first for Yorkshire makes it an extremely interesting and exciting project. Our project team is currently on site with demolition work beginning imminently.”
Graham Burr, Head of Property at Lidl UK, said: “Caddick Construction has a great reputation in the industry and we’re looking forward to working with them. Our new ‘Lidl of the Future’ concept rollout started in 2015 with only a few stores currently open to the public. The Gipton Leeds store is the very first ‘Lidl of the Future’ in West Yorkshire making it an important and monumental build for the regional team. The new store will reflect the latest design of Lidl stores which are capable of providing the full range of products, at the best possible price.”
