New student accommodation completes in time for new term

The £10m construction of York’s newest low-carbon student community has been completed ahead of the next academic year.

Caddick Construction has been on-site for just over a year and have delivered 220 state-of-the-art, self-contained student flats, spread across three blocks for Developer, Legacy Student Living.

The accommodation will be known as Foss Studios, and will be operated by Fresh Student Living.  The Lawrence Street site is ideally positioned between York University and the city centre, and its redevelopment will bring a significant boost for shops and facilities in the area.

The accommodation has been designed to a highly sustainable, low energy remit of BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard, and incorporates solar panels, 100 percent rain water harvesting and external air source heat pumps.  Slate roofing materials were chosen to ensure that the buildings blend into the historic York skyline.
