Steel frame erected as construction on designer discount store gets underway at Phoenix Park

Over 65 tonnes of steel framework is being craned into position at St. Modwen’s Phoenix Retail Park development in Longton, as construction gets underway on a new 20,000 sq ft TK Maxx store which will create dozens of new jobs for local people.

The UK’s leading regeneration specialist has been carrying out preparatory works on site since early spring and with the steelwork now being put into place, it is possible to get a sense of the scale of the new store.

The building works, carried out by Caddick Construction on behalf of St. Modwen, are due to be completed towards the end of the year, with the new store set to begin trading in early 2017.

The arrival of the international discount brand marks the final phase of development at Phoenix Park. Two industrial warehouse units totalling 9,525 sq ft will also be built as part of this latest phase, and are expected to generate a further 20 job opportunities for local people.

The site currently provides over 42,000 sq ft of retail space to big name brands including Curry’s PC World, Smyths Toys, Brantano Footwear and Pets@Home. There is also a McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant and a family pub and restaurant, ‘The Pepper Mill’, which is owned and managed by pub retailer and brewer, Marston’s.
